The Town of Exmore is in the process of a downtown revitalization project involving demolition, utility relocation, installation of new street lighting, construction of parkinf facilities, gateways and landscaping and façade improvements. These activities are funded primarily bythe Department of Housing and Community Development Block Grant and Derelict Structures funds and Virginia Department of Transportation Enhancement funds. The Town is also carrying out the design and construction of a central business district sewage treatment/disposal system under a separate contract that is funded by Rural Development Community Facilities.
The Town is presently in the first stage of these projects starting with the Derelict Structure fund. Owners of derelict structures have given the Town permission to remove the buildings in the project area at no cost to the owners. Pictures show Ideal Cleaners and gas station being torn down and carted away.
Owners of business properties in the downtown area that are eligible for funding for façade improvements are in the process of being contacted and will have up to $500.00 in design assistance for facade improvements.
